Boonthavorn Launches Design Village Project - Transforming Waste into Green Spaces: From Waste To GreenCycle, Reinforcing the Concept of Healthy Living, Eating Well, and Good Health Alongside Environmental Conservation and Sustainable Food Waste Reduction
Currently, the issue of waste generated from food scraps and the management aimed at achieving Zero Waste to minimize waste is a pressing concern. Therefore, Design Village, under the management of Boonthavorn Retail Corporation Public Company Limited, recognizes this problem, which could impact other environmental aspects. As a result, the project 'Transforming Waste into Green Spaces: From Waste To GreenCycle' has been initiated, with excellent collaboration from Hobart (Thailand) Co., Ltd. to install and test food waste and organic waste shredders within the Design Village Bangna project. This initiative aims to eliminate food scraps and organic waste from partner stores such as Rasanthim, Tempura Yamaya, Lim Lao Hoh, After You, Masaru Shabu & Sushi Buffet, and Cafe Amazon, helping to reduce food waste by up to 200 kilograms per day.
Throughout the project, over 5,000 kilograms of food waste from partner stores have been reduced, leading to a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions by 253 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent per day, or approximately 11,633 kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent per year. When the shredded food waste is combined with the compost prepared within Design Village Kaset-Nawamin, we obtain over 2,000 kilograms of high-quality organic compost. A portion of this has been donated to the Media Center for Development Foundation. The 'Transforming Waste into Green Spaces: From Waste To GreenCycle' project is a pilot initiative that Design Village is committed to expanding and applying to all five of our branches to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of food waste and organic waste management. Additionally, we are enhancing product delivery and service to align with the principles of Healthy Living, Eating Well, and Good Health that Design Village has always upheld.
We also consider the ecosystem and the most efficient use of resources from the design of each branch project, such as:
-
Design Village Kaset-Nawamin features over 9 rai of green space, divided into different zones for various uses, including a demonstration farm, nature trails, and composting areas.
-
Design Village Bangna has buildings designed to harmonize with and be friendly to nature, reducing electricity consumption through a Semi-Open Space design that incorporates green areas both horizontally and vertically (Vertical Garden) along the project's fence.
-
Design Village Phutthamonthon has undergone renovations using interior materials made from natural substitutes and environmentally friendly materials.
-
Additionally, the latest project, Design Village Ratchada, features a facade design that opens according to wind and sunlight directions, utilizing sunlight during the day to reduce electricity usage within the building. The facade also directs airflow to create a spacious, open atmosphere for customers and shops, making them feel connected to nature.
Design Village, under the management of Boonthavorn Retail Corporation Public Company Limited, aims for the 'Transforming Waste into Green Spaces: From Waste To GreenCycle' project to be a starting point for creating an organization that is committed to sustainable environmental solutions. We aspire to achieve Zero Waste through every initiative we undertake, including the installation of waste separation stations at all branches, promoting environmentally friendly habits, conserving electricity, valuing water usage, and reducing the use of paper towels and other disposable resources within the organization. We hope that every effort we make to protect the environment and nature will play a significant role in creating sustainability for the environment and nature in the future.
